Mimic wrinkle correction with botulinum toxin (botox) injections

Botulinum toxin injections, referred to by most as simply botox injections, are one of the most popular beauty treatments for reducing and removing wrinkles. The injections release a bacterium substance called Clostridium botulinum, which weakens muscle contractions. Doctors inject carefully calculated botox dosages into specific points of facial muscles. After a couple of days of the procedure, the targeted muscles stop to contract as strongly or altogether, resulting in the smoothing of wrinkles around the area.

Botox injections can remove mimic wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, lips, and neck. This injection can also treat increased sweating of palms, armpits, and feet, as well as migraine headaches.

When are botox injections not allowed to be done?

The injections are not performed:

  • during pregnancy;
  • during breastfeeding;
  • in case of inflammation or infection in the area of injection;
  • for individuals with blood clotting disorders or haemophilia;
  • for individuals with muscle or nerve function disorders;
  • for individuals with chronic lung or kidney diseases;
  • for individuals who have hypersensitivity to the components of the injection.

Botox injections are not recommended:

  • when using antibiotics or sedatives;
  • when using blood thinners or drugs that affect blood clotting.

At what age can botox injections be performed?

The patient’s age is an important factor in determining the effect and desired result of botox injection. Injections for aesthetic purposes are usually performed on patients between the ages of 25 and 65.

How is botox injection performed?

Before the injection, as before any other aesthetic procedure at the Primum Estetica clinic, the patient is consulted by one of our specialist doctors who performs these procedures. After ensuring that there are no health-threatening factors, an injection plan is drawn up.

During the procedure, the botox is injected in extremely small amounts precisely into the determined points of the facial muscles, which, after being affected by the injection, aim to smooth out wrinkles. These botox microinjections block hyperactive muscles that contract to create mimic wrinkles.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure usually takes around 15 to 30 minutes.

What to expect after the botox injection?

After the procedure, you can return to your normal rhythm of life straight away whilst following the below guidance:

  • remain in an upright position for 4-6 hours after the procedure;
  • do not massage the injected areas for the first 12 hours;
  • for the first couple of days after the injections, avoid drinking alcohol, using the sauna, don’t bathe in hot water or tan in the sun;
  • do not use aminoglycosides or tranquillizers for the first two weeks after the procedure, as these drugs may reduce the effect of botox.

The first results of botox injections appear after 3-4 days, and the maximum effect is visible after 10-14 days. The effect may last from 4 to 8 months, or sometimes up to 1 year.

Since the botox injections are not permanent, the procedure can be repeated, however not more often than every 4 months.

Botulinum toxin injections can be combined with mesotherapy, hyaluronic acid injections, laser and other anti-wrinkle procedures.

Are botox injections safe?

Botulinum toxin (botox) was first used for aesthetic purposes in 1987. It was then that the era of safe and effective injectable facial wrinkle correction began, which continues to this day.

At the Primum Estetica clinic, we use both Vistabel (manufactured by Allergan, USA) and Dysport (manufactured by Ipsen, France) for our procedures.
